The International Space Station (ISS) is the biggest artificial object to orbit Earth. This football-field-sized spacecraft has been the home and workplace for astronauts since 2000. The ISS was constructed in space as it was too big to be launched in one piece. Its assembly (construction) began in 1998 and was completed in 2011.
On the International Space Station (ISS), most of the crew sleep in their own small cabins. If there are not enough of these for everyone on board, an astronaut can sleep in one of the ISS modules. The American quarters are private, soundproof booths where a crew member can also listen to music, use a laptop, and store personal effects in a large drawer or in nets attached to the cabin walls.

Generally, astronauts are scheduled for eight hours of sleep at the end of each mission day. Like on Earth, though, they may wake up in the middle of their sleep to use the toilet, or stay up late and look out the window. During sleep, astronauts have reported having dreams and nightmares. Some have even reported snoring in space! Sleeping quarters on the ISS Commander Suni Williams shows us where the astronauts sleep on the International Space Station.
Most of the crew on the ISS choose to sleep in their own cabin or in an ISS module -- American crew members' sleeping quarters are well-ventilated (to prevent breathing in the carbon dioxide you just breathed out), soundproof private cabin-for-one setups where an astronaut can not only catch some Z's but also catch up on e-mail.
